Gazprom Neft tests Russia’s first domestically produced automated drilling software

Gazprom Neft has successfully tested Russia’s first ever domestically produced automated drilling software, capable of cutting well-construction lead-times by 15% — company specialists having been involved in developing the programme, together with partners from Uralmash NGO Holding, testing of which took place at a Slavneft-Megionneftegaz field.

This new software product integrates with existing rig control systems, allowing drillers to find the optimum drilling regime. This means deeper wells can be built faster, even under challenging or complex conditions. This is the first time domestic software for improving drilling efficiency has been produced in Russia.

“Viable development of our hard-to-recover reserves demands ongoing process optimisation at every stage, and across all functions. Automation and software are important tools in addressing that objective. Uralmash Oil and Gas Holding’s solution is giving us the chance not just to improve efficiency in well drilling through major improvements in speed, but is also creating competition for imported services. We’re not going to rest on our laurels here, and are planning to develop new Russian automated drilling solutions, together with our partners.” — says Alexei Vashkevich, Director for Technological Development, Gazprom Neft

“Megionneftegaz has, yet again, offered a platform for testing innovations in drilling: further confirmation that we are well on the way to proactively developing solutions meeting our strategic goals — including in becoming one of the industry’s leaders in technology. And that includes in developing joint projects to develop Russia’s drilling services market." — says Mikhail Cherevko, Oil and Gas Equipment Holding
