Alexei Vashkevich is Now Head of the Directorate for Technology Development at Gazprom Neft
Bazhen project, initiated and brought to life by Alexei Vashkevich, has become one of the brightest and most ambitious projects in the division’s Technology Strategy. «In just a few years, virtually from scratch, Alexei’s team has been able to create solutions that have no rivals not just in Russia, but throughout the world», noted First Deputy CEO of Gazprom Neft Vadim Yakovlev. He added that the volume of Gazprom Neft’s proven reserves, according to the international classification, has doubled as a result of, among other things, the company entering new regions: over 70 licenses have been granted in the last few years. Uniting the STC and Bazhen project under the management of the Directorate for Technology Development will help accumulate best practices in building the system for replicating and commercializing technologies.
Mars Khasanov, who previously headed the Directorate for Technology and Gazprom Neft’s Science and Technology Center, has been appointed the Director for Science of Gazprom Neft. The purpose of this new position is to streamline and expand cooperation between the company and academic and scientific centers, develop innovative operations in order to find breakthrough solutions and overcome the technological challenges faced by the company, and, above all, to improve the system for disseminating scientific knowledge in Gazprom Neft.

From 2012 to 2019 -Head of the Directorate for Geological Exploration and Resource Base Development of Gazprom Neft. Before joining the company, he worked for a US petroleum company Hess Corporation from 2004. Specifically, in 2011, he headed Bakken project for production of shale oil in the north of the USA. Until then, he managed, in the capacity of the Chief Engineer, the production operations of several producing platforms on the Equatorial Guinea shelf. Prior to that, he had held managerial positions at Russian companies which were part of Hess Corporation structure. Until 2004, he worked at the production divisions of Russian oil and gas companies.
Alexei Aleksandrovich Vashkevich was born in 1978. He graduated from Tomsk Polytechnic University majoring in Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields simultaneously earning his Bachelor’s degree in management from the

He is an expert in fluid and gas mechanics, applied mathematics and oilfield development, the author of more than 200 research papers, 5 monographs and over 60 patents of invention. He developed the procedure for engineering and monitoring of oil and gas production processes that helps describe the «reservoir — well — construction — surface infrastructure» system under a common integrated model. The engineering practices and software products designed under the guidance of Mars Khasanov were employed in drafting the development plans for the largest oil fields in the country, including Gazprom Neft’s Priobskoye and Prirazlomnoye fields, Messoyakha and Novy Port projects, as well as other equally important assets of the Company. He is the publishing editor of Petroleum Engineering, a series of publications released by Gazprom Neft, the
Mr. Khasanov has been awarded with Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation and SPE, as well as other sector and corporate awards, and holds the titles of Honored Worker of Science and Technology and Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation. He is a Professor at Saint Petersburg Mining University, Honorary Professor at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and Bashkir State University, and Honorary Doctor at Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University
Mars Khasanov was born in Bashkir Republic on 22 May 1955. Graduated from the Physics Department of Bashkir State University in 1977.
